Die durch METTL1 vermittelte Modifikation von m7G in der Epidermis treibt die psoriatische Entzündung voran, indem sie Bdkrb1 stabilisiert und die Rekrutierung von Neutrophilen steuert.

Forschende haben ein neues Puzzleteil bei Schuppenflechte gefunden. In der obersten Hautschicht ist ein Enzym namens METTL1 besonders aktiv. Es verändert die Boten RNA in Hornzellen und macht sie stabiler. So entsteht mehr von einem Eiweiß namens BDKRB1, das einen Entzündungsschalter in der Zelle anwirft. Die Zelle schüttet dann viele Lockstoffe für Abwehrzellen aus, vor allem für neutrophile Granulozyten. Diese Zellen wandern in die Haut ein und verstärken die Entzündung. In Mäusen ohne METTL1 in der Haut war die Schuppenflechte deutlich schwächer. Wenn man METTL1 oder BDKRB1 bremst, geht die Entzündung zurück und es ergibt sich ein möglicher neuer Angriffspunkt für Medikamente.
